Why Do I Have to Add So Much Water to My Pool?
Question?
Q: Hi! An interesting situation has come up. This is my first home with a pool, and we really like it a lot. For whatever reason, I always have to add water to my swimming pool here in Cape Coral. If I don't add water with my hose, it starts blowing air through the filter system and then the filter system stops working properly. A friend says it is the Florida heat and evaporation, but others say it might be a leak. Any ideas? That is it in a nutshell.
Thanks again.

That is a good one to ponder. A pool leak! I sure hope your friend is right about the heat and evaporation causing your pool problem. It could be. It is true, you could loose up to 1/2" inch of water a day due to evaporation, but that is in extreme cases only. Often people do not realize what our Southwest Florida sun can do, when all the water is being replenished by the summer rainy season.
On the flip side, leaks are very common and do just that, they leak water from the pool. If you have a leaky swimming pool or spa, you need to find it, as it is costing you money. Most of the time, swimming pool leaks take a bit of diagnosis to find. The logical places to start are where the connections take place, near the water line, and around your external pool equipment. That is my take on this.
It is nice to gain and share experiences.
