Ask Your Pool Question?

Is it Ok to Use My Pool Water to Clean My Pool Deck?

Question?

Q: This should not be long. My Neighbor said it was ok to use the pool water as a cleaning agent on the pool deck. Have you heard of this? The concept just seems a bit strange. Is it true, that I can use the swimming pool water on my concrete pool deck? A good helper is good to have.

You guys are great, thanks.

Leopoldo Rivenburg (Ponce Inlet Florida)

Answer!

A: Pleased to get your note. First, start with a small test area. If that works well, test a slightly larger area. Again, if it works fine you may feel comfortable to start throwing a couple of buckets on the concrete deck every two weeks. The chlorine in the swimming pool water should be high enough to prevent any dark mold from forming on the deck. The key is maintenance, and even more maintenance. If you use a basic kitchen mop from time to time, the results will pay in big savings from less pressure washing and less painting jobs. Take it one at a time.

Hope all goes well for you.
