Getting Diatomaceous Earth Out Of My Swimming Pool?
Question?
Q: Hello everyone. My filter allowed lots of diatomaceous earth back into the pool until I discovered there was a problem. Now the earth (lots of it) is at the pool bottom. How can I get it out of the pool? I hope to have summed it up.
Have a resource like this is great. I do thank you.

A:
Sure, I understand. I have seen this happened before, and is not a pretty sight. There is a very simple way to get the diatomaceous earth (D.E.) out of the bottom of the swimming pool. Vacuum the pool, sending the water and debris out to waste (out of the pool). As you vacuum to waste, and do it slowly, so you do not stir the diatomaceous earth. A lot of water will be lost, but it is the quickest way to get the swimming pool looking good.
If your D.E. filter is in a pit, like it usually is in commercial swimming pools; you might have to close the skimmer, and main drain valves to isolate the pit. This action depends a lot on the pool equipment set up. If your swimming pool diatomaceous earth filter is a cartridge one, then just open it up. Experience has been my best teacher.
Good luck, and do not forget to write.
