Any Tips on Saving Money on Swimming Pool Chemicals?
Question?
Q: Perhaps an easy one here. This rainy season it seems like I am wasting a ton of money on swimming pool chemicals. Adding a lot of chemicals and stuff is not enough. When you turn around it is all gone down the drain. The bill is so high that I am about to hire somebody to clean my pool. Do you have any general recommendations to save money on swimming pool chemicals? Well, that was a quick summary.
Love and lollies, thanks for helping.

A:
Ok, here we go. The simplest way is to correct the swimming pool water balance after the rain and not before. If you correct before the rain and 20 percent of the pool water goes out the overflow pipe, then you loose 20 percent of the chemicals that were in the water plus 20 percent of what you just added.
In addition, add just the amount of chemicals needed. For example, cyanuric acid should be 40 parts per million (ppm). In a residential swimming pool of less than 10,000 gallons of water, with a reading of 30 ppm, one and a half pounds of cyanuric acid will correct to the right level. You have a plan.
Be well, have fun.
